Weather
affects tomatoes and all other fruits and produce more than anything
else. When weather becomes less then ideal it takes the experience of
both the buyer and all those involved in the packing process to make
sure that the level of quality remains constant. Let's look at some
common weather situations and how they affect the tomatoes around them.
Always remember that weather affects all land in a particular growing
area. It just doesn't rain or get cold for one Farmer and not his neighbor.
Rain
Causes shoulder damage known as "Check" or "SDA"
Wind
Causes "Cat face" (pictured right) and "Sand pitting"
Extreme temperature change
Causes "Growth cracks"
